Established in 1951, IOM is an intergovernmental organization committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society in general. Since 1997 IOM is assisting the Kyrgyz Government in meeting the growing operational challenges of migration management and in understanding migration issues. IOM provides sustainable and collaborative solutions through a network of partner NGOs, through information sharing, training and capacity-building.

“The issue before governments is not so much a question of whether or not to accept migrants or to allow migration; rather the issue before us all is how to manage migration in a manner that meets societal interests while respecting migrants’ legitimate aspirations, dignity and human rights.”

William Lacy Swing , IOM Director General, International Dialogue on Migration in Geneva (2010)
