 This book was publishedunder the financial and technical support of: United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA and UNDP/UNIFEM project "Gender and Millennium Development Goals" This is already the eighth year that a statistical compilation dedicated to the situation of men and women in Kyrgyzstan and conceived as a reflection of strategic goals of the Beijing Action Platform is published. The structure of the compilation has been constantly improved. Year after year, in response to the growing need for information, the scope of the published data is larger. And, unsurprisingly, gender relations pervade all spheres of public life.
This publication is different from previous years because of a new chapter on the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, prepared by specialists of the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic with the support of the Secretariat of the National Council on Family, Women and Gender Development Affairs under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic upon the initiative of experts of the joint project Gender and Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Development Fund for Women. A harmonized system of gender indicators under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the Beijing Platform of Action (BPA) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), is presented in this chapter. This system was developed by a working group composed of representatives of ministries and agencies.
The compilation is prepared based on data collected by the state statistics bodies from enterprises and organizations, ministries and agencies of the republic, as well as on materials of population censuses and surveys.
