29 сентября 2009 года в отеле «Holiday» состоялся практический семинар по выработке совместных подходов при внедрении гендерных подходов в отраслевые политики, стратегии и программы для сотрудников Министерства труда и социального развития КР. Семинар проведен в рамках программы «Права женщин на землю», реализуемой Фондом ООН для развития в интересах женщин (ЮНИФЕМ) и финансируемой Правительством Норвегии.
Цель семинара - повысить компетентность сотрудников министерства в продвижении гендерных вопросов в государственных и отраслевых программах по достижению гендерного равенства, ознакомить с основными инструментами внедрения гендерного подхода в секторальные политики, а также на конкретных примерах продемонстрировать возможности и преимущества использования гендерного анализа для совершенствования государственной социальной политики, повышения ее адресности и эффективности.

The Steering Committee (SC) is a Council of the Program on solving strategically important issues in the process of the Project implementation.
The Chairman of the SC is Mr. Kutmanov B.Z., Deputy Head of Social Development Department of the Prime-Minister’s Office of the Kyrgyz Republic. The SC also includes representatives of national partners, civil society and international organizations. The SC has been created for ensuring transparency of the activities under the Project and coordinating them with the interested parties and institutes. Such a collective body will ensure coordination of planning and implementing project activities and link between executive bodies and local authorities and help introducing local initiatives into the public policy. The SC meetings are not also a platform for exchange of opinions, but give a possibility to develop recommendations and adjustments during the Project implementation.

From 21 till 23 April 2009 Deputy Executive Director of UNIFEM Joanne Sandler visited Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
In Kazakhstan Joanne Sandler had a meeting with NGO representatives to discuss the role of civil society in advancement of gender equality and women’s rights and highlight key partnerships between UNIFEM and CSOs in the country. In Kyrgyzstan the programme for her visit included meetings with representatives of the government, NGOs, religious leaders and gender activists. During meetings with the members of the Social Policy Department of the Government's Office, discussion focused mainly on the issue of fulfilment of international obligations on women’s rights, including Concluding Recommendations of the UN Committee on Elimination of Discrimination against Women,and progress in achievement of gender equality, in particular, applying gender approaches within national, regional and sectoral development strategies in the country.

The slogan Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History was selected to provoke an interest of media and general public to the women's activism and the non – conventional ways of addressing the problems of gender inequality in Kyrgyzstan. Thus for IWD, the Alliance of Women's Legislative Initiatives, which unites more than 120 representatives of the parliament, government and non- government organizations, being supported by the UN Gender Theme Group, organized a press- conference, theater performances, photo exhibition and social events focusing on the need for enhanced and more responsible implementation of the commitments on gender equality and women's rights, like CEDAW.

30 July 2008 more than 30 civil society organizations (CSOs) gathered to discuss the process of implementation of the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and its implications on gender equality issues in Kyrgyzstan. Bishkek, 20 February 2008 – The European Commission (EC), the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), and the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC/ILO) are promoting a consultation meeting with key national stakeholders involved in development processes in Un House to discuss gender equality and the shift of the aid architecture toward new, more effective, modalities of development assistance.

5 – 6 November 2007 the UNIFEM CIS Regional Office arranged a visit of Ms. Pramila Patten, Member of the UN Committee on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women to Kyrgyzstan. This visit was arranged upon request of the women’s movement which expressed the need for an enhanced advocacy from the side of UN towards the commitments of the government for implementation of the CEDAW.
