As Mr. Kurmanov, the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament noted in its introductory speech, "For Kyrgyzstan – with its limited budget and resources – gender equality should be one of the top priorities in its democratic development". He also added that "to improve effective use of foreign aid, the government should regard these resources as its own budget".

During the seminar, the MPs familiarized themselves with gender aspects in the new aid architecture, with the principles of Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness, aid mechanisms, as well as with key gaps in financing the national gender equality priorities. The MPs also discussed the role of Parliament in the national development planning and gender equality promotion, and the results of the gender analysis of the Kyrgyz Republic’s Mid-Term budget framework.

At the end of the seminar, the MPs thanked the organizers for the informative seminar and pledged their active participation in lobbying for the inclusion of gender issues in the revised Country Development Strategy; and in overseeing the implementation of national and international commitments on gender equality and women's rights.

The seminar was the last in the series of capacity development activities of the "EC/UN Partnership on Gender Equality for Development and Peace", which since 2007 have been implemented in Kyrgyzstan to support the government and CSOs in bringing the gender perspective into aid effectiveness processes.
